- 1 5 - Translation grants Starting in September 2021, the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture are launching a grant programme for the translation of Greek publications of all genres into other languages. The programme funds up to 75% of the total cost of the translation for the selected works, and the current application deadline is 20 January 2022. It was established to disseminate and promote the Greek language, Greek culture and Greek books throughout the world. As of today, the HFC has created a network of branches outside Greece, based in Alexandria, Belgrade, Berlin, Bucharest, Moscow, Odessa and Trieste. The HFC is also a member of two important European cultural networks: the European Union of National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and the Anna Lindh Foundation. - N O N F I C T I O N - Hélène Glykatzi -Ahrweiler was born in 1926. She is an acclaimed academic Byzantinologist. She was the Principal of the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne between 1976-1981, the first woman in the world to hold the post of a Principal in a world-renowned University. She has been Rector of the Academy of Paris and Chancellor of the Universities of Paris, President of the Centre Georges Pompidou, Principal at the University of Europe in Paris, President of the Ethics Committee of the National Centre of Scientific Research in France. Among many distinctions around the world, she has received the Medal of the Battalion Commander of the Legion of Honor , one of the highest awards of the French Republic, for her scientific work. Hélène Glykatzi-Ahrweiler recounts the story of her unique life to journalist Giannis Baskozos. From her childhood to the suburb of Vironas, to United Panhellenic Organization of Youth, the Greek resistance organization, to being Chancellor of the Universities of Paris, she has led a truly tumultuous and riveting life, “without an alibi”.
