He studied Law at the University of Athens and worked as a lawyer up until 1997. He debuted in 1982 with the short story collection Stories with Dogs . In 1997 he was the Greek candidate for the European Literary Award (Aristeion) with his third novel, Zaida or The Camel in the Snow . He has also translated novels from English and German. He studied Law at the University of Thessaloniki and then in Germany where he did his Ph.D. He worked at the Agricultural Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and the Legal Service of the Council of Ministers in Brussels and was an associate of former Greek Prime Minister Kostas Simitis.
