8 A t the beginning of time, the gods were prone to floods. You could hardly make one little mistake before a great shower of rain came down, drowning cities, harbours andmountains. All the people were drowned, too. Not a soul would survive – well, perhaps one or two. Those who survived gave their name to the flood: No- ah’s flood, Deucalion’s flood, Pyrrha’s flood.
